Rightmove recently released its Happy at Home Index 2020, which named Brighton as the fifth best place to live in the South East.

Completed in 2016, GRE Assets delivered 175 contemporary and spacious apartments at Brighton Marina. Bringing a new meaning to waterside living with private balconies overlooking the water, the development benefits from being located in a vibrant, seaside location undergoing major regeneration.

Below, we have outlined the findings of the report and what the town of Brighton has to offer as a place to live.

The Happy at Home Index 2020

As well as naming Brighton among the best places to live in the UK, the Happy at Home Index 2020 made a number of findings, including the importance of access to green space and people appreciating their local area more than before lockdown.

Tim Bannister, Director of Property Data at Rightmove, commented: “Our latest research shows that despite all the challenges that this year has brought, many people have been able to reconnect with their local area and community which has had a positive effect on how they feel about where they live.

He continues: “This year’s study shows a greater appreciation for green spaces and nature, and a strong correlation between people living in coastal and rural areas and how happy people are where they live.”

We explored how people have different priorities when looking for a new home, in our recent blog.

How does this apply to Brighton?

There are 10 different factors, which Rightmove used to determine how happy people were to live in the various towns and cities in the UK. As well as Brighton fitting in with the trend of coastal locations performing well, it also aligns very closely with a number of the key factors explored within the report, including artistic and cultural activities, nature and green spaces, and non-essential amenities.

The area’s retail, leisure and cultural offering is what particularly shines with independent shops in the Lanes, plenty of places to eat and drink, including 26 bars and restaurants at Brighton Marina, and a thriving creative scene. It is also easy to explore outdoor spaces in Brighton, whether it’s a walk along the beach or a visit to the nearby South Downs National Park.
