Ashford, the fast-growing commuter town in Kent with fast connections to London and Paris, could gain a major new development if current plans are approved.

The Large Burton scheme would feature 750 homes, a new school, community centre and gym, built by Quinn Estates. If approved, the development will begin construction later in 2019. Company head Mark Quinn has held community meetings to discuss residents’ concerns, particularly over potential effects on local wildlife.

“Much of the work will be focussed within the fields with natural highways formed of green corridors, so we’re confident we can mitigate and actually enhance the ecology of the area by a substantial amount. We’ve got acres and acres of land that need improvement, so we’re spending lots of money creating proper zones and pathways for wildlife,” he said.

There will also be financing set aside for new traffic routes including a bridge over the local railway line. Quinn Estates plans to finance a new clubhouse for the Ashford Town Bowls Club.

Ashford has seen some of the most forward-looking developments in England over recent years, taking advantage of the town’s connections to the Eurostar high speed train link between London and Paris, together with its excellent road links.

Quinn Estates has also worked with GRE Assets on a major riverside development in Ashford.
